Valentine's DayRed & Gold
Valentine's Day Card
My
gift to my husband - a lovely red and gold 'milk can' of Lindor
Truffles sparked my imagination for a 'Red & Gold' valentine's day
and this year's valentine's day card came out to be an elegant and
simple card that looked rich and classic.
The front flap of the card is cut by a centimeter to reveal the
golden edging inside. The punched out border further shows the
golden paper on the inner side.
Supplies Needed:
- red card blank (try to get one with embossed square frames)
- 2 heart cutouts from golden card stock (I cut mine out from an
old invitation card received)
- 1" wide strip from the same golden card stock of the height of
your card blank
- Border punch (I used Carla Craft cp-13, Hearts and Flowers)
- 4 red teardrop shaped embellishments
- Golden Pen
- Golden ribbon (optional)
| Directions: 1. If your card blank is embossed with square frames, glue your
hearts within them. If not, glue them leaving appropriate space in
between.
Use the pictures given for ideas for placement.
Note: You can also use embosser tools to emboss your own
frames.

 |
| 2. Glue the 1" wide golden strip on the right edge of the card's
inside. Take special care to apply glue to the corners
of the card. 3. Using a paper cutter, cut the front flap of the card by 1 cm
on the right, revealing a 1 cm golden strip that you glued inside in
the previous step.
4. Using a border punch, punch out a continuous border on the
edge where you cut a 1 cm strip in the previous step.
|
 |
| Note: To make the border perfectly continuous, punch
out one set, place the punch next to the punch, turn the punch
along with the card stock and position the punch exactly after
the punched out space. You will be able to see the punched out places
from inside the punch. 5. Upon closing the card, you will see how the 1 cm cut along
with the punched out border beautifully shows off the golden strip
glued inside. The golden hearts and the strip have already set your
'red and gold' color scheme.

 |
| 6. Now for some further embellishments to the card. I have
used teardrop shaped embellishments to form hearts inside the golden
cutout cards. Place two embellishments together as shown in the
picture, and glue them in place to form a heart shape. Make one
embellishment heart for each cutout heart. Note: You may also use heart-shaped embellishments instead. I
like the color and clarity of these and decided to use them.
|
 |
| 7. Optional Step: You may also tie a golden ribbon around the
fold of the card and make a bow in the front. I decided it would
take away the simplicity and decided
not to but it certainly is a nice touch to add to the card. Note: There are many shades of 'golden' available in ribbons.
Make sure your ribbon matches the golden paper you have used.
8. You will need a golden pen to write on red card stock. Write
your message on the inside. You can also use the pen to draw little
hearts here and there for added interest. |
